The same day when it was reported to the fervent and loyal blog readers that Aquamarina RV Park in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico, was closing down and an era had ended, one of the most beautiful small hotels ever found on the many journeys worldwide was discovered right in the heart of La Paz.
An historical building, one block behind the cathedral, has been transformed into a “Bed and Breakfast Inn” over the last couple of years by a woman called Esther Amman who is from Switzerland, Europe.
She purchased the 140 years old building which once has served as the Federal Court in La Paz.
The building had been abandoned for many years and was a ruin but with the guidance of the National Historic Institute of Mexico it is fully restored and more beautiful than ever.
The little hotel is called “El Angel Azul” and probably, the owner speaking also German, this refers to the famous 1929 film of Josef von Sternberg “Der blaue Engel”.
In which Marlene Dietrich as Lola Lola was singing the unforgettable song: “Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt“.
Which means more or less that Marlene Dietrich pretended to be conditioned for love from her head to her feet.
From the street you go through the door of the little hotel and right away you are holding your breath.
You enter a haven.
A splendid, stunning interior in the best of tastes and very Mexican.
There is an open lounge with a bar and a garden with waterfalls and flowers and plants.
In this exotic garden are long chairs placed for ultimate relaxing.
It is hard to believe this is in the city centre.
Located around this spectacular garden are several rooms all very nicely decorated in the Mexican style and it all feels welcoming, warm and homely.
These fabulous rooms come with a breakfast: either American, continental or Mexican.
Also available is a very healthy breakfast of fresh fruit and yoghurt.
Experienced travellers know how important a breakfast to the personal preference and taste is and in “El Angel Azul” nobody has to compromise.
There are two interesting rules in the B&B Inn “El Angel Azul”: no smoking is allowed in the rooms and children older than 12 years are welcome.
In the lobby is a table with reading material and pleasantly surprising is to see there Al Gore’s “An inconvenient truth”.
The hotel has also an art-gallery where Mexican artists are presented.
In La Paz, Baja California, Mexico, Richard and Maria Luisa Adcock have been running their trailer park for many years and are closing it down.
But Esther Ammann, in the same town, has renovated a beautiful building and opened a wonderful little hotel.
This is life at its best.
Things go and things come.
Life takes and life gives.
